Stucco can protect adjacent materials. Venecian Stucco with a high free lime content has the benefit of high porosity and high permeability. These characteristics allow stucco to protect other adjacent materials by handling moisture movements through the building fabric and protecting masonry materials from harmful salts. The use of Stucco has ecological benefits. Limestone can be burnt at relatively low temperatures to achieve full calcinations. Kilns need to reach 900 to 1,000ºC as opposed to 1,300 to 1,400 for ceramics and cements. Free lime absorbs carbon dioxide in the setting process of carbonation. |
