This is the history of Venetian Plaster
Today we have an industry based in Northern Italy,
due to the geological qualities of the bedrock in the
area, producing Venetian Plasters to a level of
quality our ancestoral master craftsmen could not
have even wished for. Modern methods of plaster
production and pigmenting allow us access to the
full colour spectrum with an infinite ammount of
control over texture and pattern.

The principal ingredient in Stucco Veneciano is
Lime. Lime has been the binder of choice for
mortars and plasters for over 10,000 years, the
oldest surviving example is in Turkey, dating back to
8,000 BC

More recently during the Renaissance period it was
used extensively throughout the Palacial homes
around the Mediterranean. In those days they used
mineral oxides to colour the plaster, resulting in rich
earthy coloured buildings that have withstood the test
of time. A master craftsman would have chosen
putties that were created from seasoned slaked lime.
